Nut History

Plums or Alu Bukharas, whatever the name, the fruit has been a delight to humans for centuries. From wines to dried fruit for extended travel, plums have come a long way from their original cultivation in China in 470 BCE.

Plums came to India from China, presumably via the Silk Route, but are not widely cultivated except in the hilly regions.

Prunes specifically refer to dried plums of the European variety that were grown to be dried after ripening—used as ingredients in both savoury and sweet dishes; prunes are primarily produced in the USA.
