Nut History

As kids, we willed it was the Devil's fruit, and biting into a chocolate chip cookie only for it to be a raisin one will always be disappointing, but everyone seems to make their peace with raisins as we grow. Raisin grapes were grown in Persia and Egypt as far back as 2000 BCE and travelled to Northern India with Persian invaders in 1300 CE.

They were introduced to the South with Mohammed bin Tughlaq's move to Daulatabad, cementing Maharashtra's position as the grape and raisin producer of the country.
